| Profile - George W. Powell, Jr. MAI, CRE George W. Powell, Jr. is managing member of Powell Law PL in Naples, Florida. He focuses his practice on real estate matters in the areas of eminent domain/condemnation law, real property taxation, real estate litigation and real estate transactions in Florida and New Jersey. He also holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute and the CRE designation from The Counselors of Real Estate, an institute of the National Association of Realtors.
Prior to forming Powell Law, George served as Special Counsel in the Condemnation and Property Tax Appeal Practice Groups of an AmLaw 200 national law firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He maintained a national practice, representing disparate clients in a variety of complex condemnation and ad valorem taxation matters. Representative clients include national retailers and banks, regional developers, outdoor advertising firms and manufacturers. George has handled eminent domain matters in Florida, Arizona, California, Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, Minnesota, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. George previously was the president and principal appraiser of Powell & Powell Associates, Inc. in Marlton, New Jersey, where he specialized in the valuation of complex industrial, commercial and special use properties throughout the mid-Atlantic region for eminent domain/condemnation, real property tax and bankruptcy litigation purposes. Admitted to practice in both Florida and New Jersey, George is a member of The Florida Bar, as well as the American, New Jersey State, and Collier and Lee County bar associations. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. George is a Florida Supreme Court certified mediator and qualified arbitrator. George is active in the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce,the Naples Area Board of Realtors, the Economic Development Council of Collier County and the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association. In New Jersey, George is a certified general real estate appraiser, certified tax assessor and licensed real estate broker. He is a past director of Continental Bank of New Jersey. A former adjutant instructor of real estate valuation for Rutgers University in New Jersey, George has addressed various educational organizations, including Lorman Education Services and the National Business Institute (NBI). He previously served as a staff editor of Pennsylvania's eminent domain practice manual. George is a graduate, with honors, of Rutgers University School of Law-Camden and a graduate of Bucknell University (B.A., History).
